March is for Mom’s Birthday

March 28: Springtime Birthday

Ruth Lutz was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on March 28th, 1938. Most of the germans and foreigners had been moved out of the country by that time. Because of the sheer number of Germans living in Central America, the United States convinced the individual countries to send Germans to Texas. World war II was gearing up and no buddy wanted any surprises along the southern border. This edict was was enforced and all except for two natural born German citizens were allowed to stay in the country. The beer maker for obvious reasons was allowed to stay and a man who’s hobby was Beekeeping was also allowed to stay.

My Grandfather a missionary supported by the German SDA Church. Was the man taking care of the President of Honduras’s bee’s. So he and the family was spared the trip to the States. So Mom being one of seven kids was born in Honduras. Its said that my Grandmother was taken to the hospital in a vehicle sent by the president to make sure she made it. I’m not really sure about that part but I do know that my Grandfather loved bee’s and beekeeping and for a time after the war taught beekeeping in an Adventist College in Costa Rica for a time. So yes I can see person passionate about bee’s and honey making himself in to quite a deal. Knowing the characters like I do, though I can’t say he did it out of a sense of family protection in precarious times. I’m more in cline to believe that God wanting his humble missionary to stay on task through the war years lead him to Beekeeping for the President.

(Bottom) The pictures at the start are little Ruth in the middle of Family and other school friends at the mission school that they had at the time. (Right) Ruth on a more recent trip to Washington DC. (Left) With Mrs. Boskind the woman that encouraged my Mom to go to Southern for College. Where as you see she graduated and met Ed. This kind christian woman changed my mothers life more then any other (besides Dad) and she was grateful and spoke in utmost respect and Love of them her whole life.
