My grandfather spent much time in the Schmid Household. It was never explained why, just that the Schmid’s were family just not blood. And they have been at that through many generations our families remain close. Uncle Willi followed my Grandfather to Central America in the early 30”s. Exploring Guatamala and Honduras particularly.
Befriending the other German families that he would meet along the way. He was always fond of photography and through the pictures he took we can see a side of the early 20th century Central America that is hard to find. He did have to spend the war years as a guest of the United States in Texas as did many Germans in Central America. And went back to Germany after the war.
